Locasol 400g Tin

Locasol is a Food for Special Medical Purposes for use under medical supervision. Locasol is a nutritionally incomplete powdered feed containing cow's milk protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements with a very low calcium content and no vitamin D added. For the dietary management of disorders of calcium metabolism (e.g. hypercalcaemia/uria or osteopetrosis), where an extreme restriction of calcium and vitamin D is required. Suitable for infants and children. Locasol is available in 400g tin.

Lactose (from cows milk), vegetable oils (palm oil, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, coconut oil (soy)), demineralised whey (from cow's milk), sodium caseinate (from cows milk), maltodextrin, potassium chloride, L-cystine, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate, choline bitartrate, magnesium citrate, L-ascorbic acid, magnesium hydrogen phosphate, L-carnitine, ferrous sulphate, inositol, ascorbyl palmitate, zinc sulphate, sodium carbonate, retinyl acetate, taurine, nicotinamide, DL-a-tocopherol, calcium D-pantothenate, copper sulphate, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, potassium iodide, pteroylmonoglutamic acid, chromium chloride, sodium molybdate, manganese sulphate, phytomenadione, D-biotin, sodium selenite, cyanocobalamin. Allergens: contains milk and soy.

Store in a cool, dry place. Always replace contained lid after use. Once opened, use within one month. Packaged in a protective atmosphere.

For enteral use only. Must be used under medical supervision. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. Suitable for infants and children.

For bottle feeding:

  1. Wash hands thoroughly and clean the preparation area. Sterilise bottles and teats.
  2. Boil fresh water for 5 minutes or until an electric kettle switches off. Cool for at least 30 minutes so that it feels warm to the wrist. Pour 2/3 of the required amount of water into the sterilised feeding bottle.
  3. Fill the scoop provided with the powder and level off with a clean, dry knife.Do not press the powder into the scoop. Use only the scoop provided.
  4. Add the prescribed number of scoops of powder to the water. Replace the cap on the botte and shake until the powder dissolves. Add the remaining amount of water and shake the bottle again. Before feeding, ensure that the product is at the correct temperature by placing a few drops on the wrist.
  5. Use immediately after reconstitution. Product remaining in the bottle after one hour of feeding should be discarded. Product must not be rewarmed during feeding.

For tube or sip feeding:

  1. Wash hands. Use clean and sterile equipment to prepare feed.
  2. Use freshly boiled cooled water.
  3. Use the scoop provided or weigh out the prescribed amount of powder.
  4. Add a small amount of the required water to the prescribed amount of powder and stir with a fork until a smooth paste is obtained.
  5. Continue stirring whilst adding the rest of the water until the prescribed dilution is achieved.
  6. Administer at room temperature. Use immediately after reconstitution. Always discard unfinished feeds.

For sip feeding: Product remaining after one hour of feeding should be discarded. Product must not be rewarmed during feeding.

For tube feeding: Hanging time should not exceed 2 hours.

Breast milk is the best option for babies

Breastfeeding is the best form of nutrition for babies and provides many benefits to babies and mothers. The decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse and the financial implications must be considered.
